ISLAM
A Way Of Life And Worship
ISLAM
Is an arabic word which
denotes complete submission and obedience to God, the Creator and Sustainer of
all that exists. God is one in essence and being, there is no concept of a
division of His being, or His powers. To God alone does man owe worship and
obedience.
This message was preached by all Prophets of God,
among them Adam & Noah, Moses & Abraham, Jonah & Soloman, John & Jesus, until
the last of all the Prophets, Muhammad. Their message of one God was the same.
They guided men to acknowledge and obey their Creator. As man deviated from the
message they brought, God in His Mercy would send another Prophet until He sent
the final message and way of life for mankind with the last of the line of
Prophets, Muhammad. The revelation given to us which supersedes all other
revelations is the Qur’an. It has never been changed or altered since its coming
till now.

VIEW OF MANKIND
All men are created as equal creations of One God.
We are a human family. There can be no distinction of men based upon color,
nationality or class. The Universe and all creation are unified in concept when
we acknowledge one Creator. Those people who acknowledge the oneness of God,
submit to His sovereignty over them and who believe in His revelation through
His guided Prophets, are called Muslim (one who submits).
WAY OF LIFE
God
in His wisdom and love for mankind has provided man with a guided structure for
his life. As our Creator, He knows that which will enhance us as a society and
individual and that which will bring us harm or distance us from our relation
with Him. He provided ma with a criteria of right and wrong which is based on
wisdom, and it is a sign of belief for the human to follow it. This is revealed
to man as guidance in the Qur’an.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Islam
teaches that man will be accountable after death for all his life choices,
actions and beliefs. God gave him an intellect and Freewill and there will be a
reckoning. It is not up to mankind to determine what is good and what is bad.
Man is limited by his time and experience. His wisdom can never compare to God
who knows everything, past and future. The criteria for accountability in the
life Hereafter is God’s criteria. This criteria is given to man through
revelation. The revelation left with man till the end of the world is the
Qur’an.
FITRAH
Islam is the religion of “Fitrah” (or the way of life that
goes according to the sound human nature). Everyone is born according to this
fitrah. If a person accepts Islam, he in reality reverts to his original
religion “Islam” with which he was born. For a person to become a Muslim, there
is no special rites, rather he has only to do and believe in the following:
To bear witness that there is no god except One God (or
Allah), and that Muhammad is His last Prophet and Messenger.
To perform the five daily prayers.
To pay the specified “zakah” or poor dues.
To fast the month of Ramdan.
To perform “Hajj” or pilgrimage to Makkah at least
once in his life span.
